Low-voltage distribution systems are widely used in various scenarios, including industrial and residential buildings. The grounding system is an essential part of the low-voltage distribution system, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
There are three main types of grounding systems in low-voltage distribution systems:
1. TN System:
The neutral point of the power transformer is directly grounded.
The exposed conductive parts of electrical equipment are connected to the protective earth (PE) conductor, which is connected to the grounding system.
The TN system is further divided into three subtypes: TN-S, TN-C, and TN-C-S.
2. TT System:
The neutral point of the power transformer is not grounded or is grounded through a high impedance.
The exposed conductive parts of electrical equipment are connected to a separate protective earth (PE) conductor, which is connected to an independent grounding system.
The TT system provides a higher level of safety than the TN system, but it is more complex and expensive to install.
3. IT System:
The neutral point of the power transformer is not grounded or is grounded through a high impedance.
The exposed conductive parts of electrical equipment are connected to a separate protective earth (PE) conductor, which is connected to an independent grounding system.
The IT system is the safest type of grounding system, but it is also the most complex and expensive to install.
The choice of grounding system for a low-voltage distribution system depends on various factors, including the type of electrical equipment, the environment, and the required level of safety.
